HANDS AROUND THE COURTHOUSE

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Since 2005, CASA Kane County has drawn attention to the issue of local child abuse and neglect through its Hands Around the Courthouse event.

On April 9th, 100 people gathered inside the courthouse rotunda to pay tribute to the thousands of victims of child abuse and neglect in Kane County.  According to DCFS statistics, there were 3,950 reports of abuse and neglect in Kane County last year - the fourth highest number of reports in the state.

Guest speakers this year included Chief Judge Keith Brown, Juvenile Court Judge Susan Clancy Boles, and Sherriff Pat Perez. Those who attended received a t-shirt stating Protecting Children is Everyone's Job.  These shirts were partially funded by a gift from the Tr-Cities Exchange Club.

We invite you join us next April to show your support for the children we serve.  The ceremony takes place on the second Thursday in April at noon.

One hundred people encircled the courthouse rotunda for a moment of silence acknowledging local victims of child abuse and neglect.
