Il Primary Prevention to Reduce the Negative Impacts of the Social Determinants of Health in Child Welfare

Held virtually, Hosted by YouthCare Illinois, Presented by Gary Pate, MSSW, LCSW

Imagine a Child Well-Being System wherein 90% of children remain with their biological family.  Since much of our well-being is associated with social and economic factors, it is reasonable to focus our efforts on addressing the negative impacts of Social Determinants of Health, or the conditions in the environment that impact our ability to live, laugh, love, learn, and labor.  The Family First Prevention Services Act provides some insight on what we can do to address Social Determinants of Health through a primary prevention lens. Examples of primary prevention will be discussed, and participants will have the opportunity to create an example of a program that could be implemented.
