Backpacks for Bookworms
Parent Petroleum kicked off Backpacks for Bookworms in 2023, and has since provided backpacks and school supplies to over 1200 children and counting!
2026 collection begins in June!
Backpacks for Bookworms is a third party event hosted by Parent Petroleum, a Visionary Champion of CASA Kane County. This event benefits the children served by CASA Kane County, who have been placed in the foster care system due to abuse and/or neglect. Children in foster care frequently enter a new school year with a different perspective than other children and do not have new backpacks and school supplies.
When they are moved between families and foster homes these children could have to change schools multiple times a year. Not returning to school with new items as the rest of their peers can make them feel shameful, confused, and embarrassed – yet another reminder of how little they have.
Our goal is to ensure every child starts the school year with pride, dignity, a new backpack filled with supplies, and the love of their community.
